learning pole dancing onlineYou’ve made your decision, and you want to start pole dancing classes online. How to do it? Learning pole dancing from home is possible, and it can be a great adventure, however, if you want to see the results, it’s good to think it through before you start.

1 – Safety


The first tip, probably the most obvious one, is safety. Of course, learning pole dancing online should be engaging and entertaining, but the first rule is not to put yourself at any risk.

These viral videos of people falling off the pole, smashing windows, are pretty funny to watch, but they're not so funny to participate in. So, please, make sure, you've installed your pole or other equipment that you're using correctly, so you won't be part of those viral videos.


2 – Good planning


Plan your session ahead. So unless you're taking part in a fully structured live class, it's best to pick your tutorials, the moves you want to go through, beforehand.

It will save you at least 10 minutes of browsing which lesson to choose.

What is more, if you start browsing after your warm-up, you would definitely cool down by the time you’ll find a perfect match.

The second reason is that you want to adjust your warm-up according to what you're planning to do. So, for example, if you're planning to do some bending moves, it's probably a good idea to warm up your back a little more.

And also have a plan B. Just in case the choreography or move that you want to learn is a bit more difficult than you've anticipated. Then you won't get frustrated and drop midway, you'll just have an alternative thing to do.


3 – Eliminate your distractions


Send your boyfriend away. Lock your kids in the basement – just a joke 😉 – turn off your notifications. Lock your social media out.

It's really easy when you're training by yourself, and you have some mobile devices near you to go from a tutorial that you're watching to:

'Oh, I'm going to check my email'.
'Oh, Sharon is having a baby'.
'Oh, what a funny cat video'.

And then, ten minutes later, you're cooling down, and your motivation is down as well.

What if you are trying to learn this "move you saw on Instagram"?

Well, the risk of watching funny cats videos instead is very high. I would highly recommend screenshotting it, taking it away from the platform somehow, so you can come back to it without losing it in social media.


4 – A proper warm-up

You can either warm up by yourself or use one of the prerecorded, ready warm-ups, like at

Please remember that you are the one who knows your body the best. If something is still not feeling quite warm enough, then you can always add some extra exercises to make sure your body is prepared for the workout ahead.

And that's not only down to the online training, it's also in a normal studio setup. Don't be afraid to add something extra or in the middle of the session. If you feel like you're cooling down a little or something is feeling quite stiff.


5 – Recording

That's why a mirror and recording device are going to be your best friends.

And that's a great tip, not only for online training. Even if you practice in the studio, I would say, with a pole fitness instructor, verbal advice is easy to comprehend and easy to explain.

But with exotic pole dancing, it's quite difficult to verbally explain some moves and at the end of the day, when you get in a face-to-face class, it's still going to be a mainly visual explanation from the teacher, similar to as it would be in online video.


6 – Cooldown


Learning pole dancing online should not only involve a warm-up but also cool down. It’s a perfect time to throw in some passive stretches. And for those of you who like an exotic pole, this is a good time to stretch your feet a bit after wearing heels.


7 – Give yourself a credit for doing your training!


You chose to move your beautiful buttocks instead of sitting on a sofa, so you should be proud of and happy about yourself. Well done! Honestly, when learning exotic pole dancing online, we should be celebrating even the smallest successes!


8 – Analyze your progress

Now is the time to go on your sofa and watch the videos that you've recorded. You can analyze them a bit more thoroughly. You can post some stuff on social if that's what you like, and reflect:

    • what went well,
    • what you want to practice in the next session.


Take notes if you want and use your conclusions while planning your next lessons. I assure you that it’s going to save you a lot of time in the future and keep your motivation high!
